India won the toss and chose to bat against Afghanistan. Manav Suthar and Nangeyalia Kharote made their Test debuts in Mullanpur
India captain Shubman Gill won the toss and chose to bat first in the one-off Test against Afghanistan at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
The biggest talking point for India was the Test debut of left-arm spinner Manav Suthar. The Rajasthan bowler enters the longest format after an impressive domestic career, claiming 129 wickets in 29 first-class matches.
The match is also special for Gill, who is leading India in a Test on his home turf of Punjab for the first time.
Afghanistan also introduced a debutant, with 22-year-old left-arm spinner Nangeyalia Kharote earning his first Test cap.
Both teams have opted for spin options in what promises to be an intriguing contest as India look to make the most of batting first in Mullanpur.
