Dubai: India T20 captain Shreyas Iyer reached a career-best seventh spot in the latest ICC rankings for 20-over cricket on Wednesday, whilst ODI skipper Shubman Gill maintained his position at the summit of the 50-over batting list.

Iyer’s unbeaten 102 off 43 balls, feature-packed with 10 boundaries and six sixes, guided the reigning T20 world champions to a decisive eight-wicket triumph in the series opener against West Indies in Lucknow on Tuesday.

The fiery knock pushed Iyer up 18 positions, establishing him as India's third-highest ranked batter in the format. Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma hold the top two places, with Tilak Varma occupying 10th position, providing India four batters inside the top 10, according to an ICC media release.

Teenage prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi rose eight spots to 46th.

West Indies batter Sherfane Rutherford’s rapid 56 saw him advance 10 spots to 37th, whilst Pakistan’s Hasan Nawaz moved up 62 places to 48th following notable performances at the Asian Games.

Abrar Ahmed’s figures of zero for 29 and one for 29 across the semi-final and final at the Asian Games proved insufficient to hold on to the top ranking among bowlers.

Leg-spinner Rashid Khan returned for an eighth stint at the summit, having spent more than double the time at number one compared to any other bowler.

India left-arm spinner Axar Patel picked up two wickets apiece across three outings over the past week, gaining 16 places to settle in seventh position.

Gill retains top spot in ODI rankings

Gill reinforced his hold on the summit of the ODI batting rankings after making an unbeaten 223 in the second fixture against West Indies in Guwahati.

His second double-century in the 50-over format—which set a record for the highest individual score in an ODI run chase—earned him 25 rating points to match his career-best total of 841.

Former captain Virat Kohli dropped from second to third place.

KL Rahul re-entered the top 10 in 10th position, rising seven places after registering a fluent century in the third ODI against West Indies.
