India to join Pax Silica: What is the US-led AI and silicon alliance?
Iran is grappling with escalating internal protests and intensifying tensions with the United States.
India is poised to become part of Pax Silica, a US-led alliance aimed at securing global AI and silicon supply chains, a move that could reshape the geopolitics of technology.
The announcement was made by US ambassador-designate Sergio Gor, who underlined India’s central role in Washington’s long-term strategic thinking, calling it an indispensable partner as the two nations expand cooperation beyond trade.
Pax Silica is designed to counter China’s overwhelming influence in key technology sectors, including critical minerals, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and advanced manufacturing.
At its core, the initiative seeks to create reliable and trusted supply chains for the technologies that power modern economies, from energy inputs and rare minerals to chip fabrication, data centres, and AI infrastructure.
US officials argue that in the 21st century, economic strength depends on computing power, not fossil fuels, making secure tech ecosystems vital to national security.
For India, joining Pax Silica signals a closer strategic alignment with the United States on AI, emerging technologies, and supply-chain security, even as New Delhi and Washington move toward finalising a broader trade deal.
