When sponsors pulled out at the last minute, the Onam celebrations at Kanchiyar Government Tribal Lower Primary School in Idukki seemed set to lose their sparkle. But teachers and parents stepped in to ensure the children did not miss out.
Together, they prepared a grand 101-dish Sadya, with students, parents and teachers sharing the traditional feast. Ammini Joseph, who prepares and serves the school’s mid-day meals, was also given a special honour by inaugurating the celebrations.
