Hyderabad: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday offered prayers at the Sri Bhagyalakshmi Mata Temple near Charminar in Hyderabad ahead of leading a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) padyatra as part of its nationwide 'Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy' (Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao) campaign.

The BJP's Telangana unit has organised the foot march to counter the Congress and INDIA bloc's campaign against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The party has described the initiative as an effort to challenge what it calls false propaganda surrounding the exercise.

Shah is scheduled to lead the march, with Telangana BJP leaders and party workers expected to join him. The padyatra is planned to culminate at Mozamjahi Market, where a public gathering is also scheduled.

Telangana BJP State Chief Spokesperson NV Subhash said the campaign was intended to present the party's response to the opposition's allegations.

Shah's Hyderabad visit is part of the BJP's wider political campaign, as the party seeks to mobilise its state cadre and counter the Congress-led opposition's criticism of the SIR exercise.
