One of Indian cinema’s most iconic films, Lagaan, is making a grand return to theatres nationwide on June 12, 13, and 14 to celebrate its 25th anniversary
Celebrating 25 years of cinematic excellence, Aamir Khan’s Oscar-nominated blockbuster Lagaan is set to return to theaters across India on June 12, 13, and 14. Originally released on June 15, 2001, the epic period sports drama was directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and produced by Aamir Khan.
Set during British colonial rule, Lagaan follows a group of villagers who challenge their colonial rulers to a high-stakes cricket match to escape oppressive taxes. The film earned international recognition with a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film at the 74th Academy Awards and remains one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated achievements.

Announcing the re-release, Aamir Khan Productions shared a special message on social media, inviting audiences to relive the magic of the beloved classic on the big screen.
Alongside Aamir Khan, the film features an ensemble cast including Gracy Singh, Rachel Shelley, Paul Blackthorne, Suhasini Mulay, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Rajendra Gupta.
Adding to its enduring appeal is the unforgettable soundtrack composed by A. R. Rahman, featuring iconic songs such as Ghanan Ghanan, Mitwa, Radha Kaise Na Jale, and O Rey Chhori. The film also won eight honours, including the Best Popular Film award at the 49th National Film Awards.
As Lagaan marks a quarter-century of its legacy, fans old and new will have the opportunity to experience the historic cricket saga once again on the silver screen.
