Released on June 15, 2001, Gadar became a cultural phenomenon and emerged as the highest-grossing film in India during its release period.

Directed by Anil Sharma and co-starring Ameesha Patel, the film told the story of Tara Singh, a Sikh truck driver, and Sakina, a Muslim woman, whose love story unfolded against the backdrop of political and geographical divisions.
