Mumbai: An FIR has been registered against organisers of Yo Yo Honey Singh’s Mumbai concert for allegedly using illegal laser lights at the MMRDA Grounds, a restricted zone located close to the airport.

According to police officials, the Mumbai concert held on March 28 violated safety norms as laser lights were used despite clear restrictions in airport-sensitive areas, where such lighting is prohibited due to aviation safety risks.

Laser light violation and FIR details

The FIR names Indrajit Singh, a representative of Tamannaz Worldwide, the event promoter, for unauthorised use of laser lights in Mumbai. Authorities said prior warnings had been issued, but organisers failed to comply with police directives.

The violation raised serious concerns as the venue falls within a restricted aviation zone, where laser beams can interfere with aircraft operations.

Crowd mismanagement at Mumbai concert

Police also flagged discrepancies in crowd estimates. While organisers had informed authorities of an expected turnout of around 12,000 attendees, the actual crowd surged to 18,000–20,000 people, creating security and crowd control challenges.

Officials said the unexpectedly large gathering, combined with the use of prohibited lighting equipment, heightened risks during the live concert event.

Legal context on laser lights in public events

In September 2024, the Bombay High Court declined to impose a blanket ban on laser lights at public events due to a lack of evidence on their harmful effects. However, the court clarified that police can take action if laser usage poses safety hazards, particularly in sensitive zones.

Security incident during performance

During the concert, a woman attempted to force entry by climbing a closed gate while the performance was underway. Security personnel intervened promptly, preventing a potential breach. Officials said the individual appeared agitated and used abusive language when stopped.
