Thiruvananthapuram: Prominent Malayalam filmmaker Vinayan has responded strongly to actress Vincy Aloshious's recent revelations against actor Shine Tom Chacko. In a social media post, Vinayan drew parallels with the late veteran actor Thilakan’s exclusion from the film industry, claiming the ban was unjust and politically motivated.
Taking to Facebook, Vinayan expressed his anguish over how Thilakan was treated by industry organisations. He stated that Thilakan was not ostracised for drug use or for misbehaving with fellow artistes, but rather for publicly criticising the alleged mafia-like conduct of certain cinema associations.
“He was punished by these organisations with enthusiasm and vengeance for stating that some cinema associations behave like mafias. That was his crime,” Vinayan wrote. “It was with the pain of that injustice that he left this world.”
Vinayan lamented the state of the Malayalam film industry, suggesting that Thilakan’s spirit would be in turmoil seeing the current scenario. Referring indirectly to Vincy Aloshious’s complaint, Vinayan criticised the system that allegedly fails to protect whistleblowers, especially women who come forward with serious allegations.
“A young actress had the courage to name an actor, mention the film set, and state that he humiliated her while under the influence of drugs,” he said. “Now, the pressure on her to withdraw her complaint and the way the industry positions itself as flawless is telling.”
He also alluded to previous instances where more prominent actresses had tried to expose similar misconduct but were marginalised or driven out of work. Vinayan questioned the effectiveness of the Hema Committee Report, which was hailed for encouraging strong testimonies but allegedly fell flat due to systemic suppression and influence.
“Time and again, hasn’t the entire investigation and even the judiciary been silenced?” he asked. “This is nothing short of a masterclass in acting.”
He ended his note with a scathing remark on the government’s silence and a hopeful message: “Even if truth is covered with a golden lid, there is a saying—it will emerge. That will become reality here. On that day, many masks will be ripped apart.”
Vinayan’s post has sparked renewed discussions on accountability and transparency within the Malayalam film industry, particularly in light of past controversies and the treatment of artists who challenge the status quo.
