New Delhi: Actor and leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Vijay, left on Sunday after being interrogated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Karur tragedy. The questioning, which took place at the CBI headquarters in Delhi, lasted for seven hours. This marks the third time Vijay has been questioned in relation to this case.

Vijay departed from the CBI headquarters at approximately 6.00 pm on Sunday. In a cinematic style, he greeted the large crowd gathered outside by waving through the sunroof of his car. The CBI has also directed Karur MLA Senthil Balaji to appear for questioning on March 17.

Although Vijay was initially served a notice to appear on March 9, his request for a 15-day extension was denied by the CBI. In addition, the agency rejected his plea to conduct the interrogation in Chennai or another office in Tamil Nadu. Vijay had sought these concessions citing his ongoing preparations for the upcoming elections.

The case pertains to the tragic incident on September 27 last year, where 41 people lost their lives in a stampede during a TVK rally in Karur. Following directives from the Supreme Court, the CBI took over the investigation from the Special Investigation Team. Vijay was previously interrogated twice by the agency in January.
