Actor Shane Nigam has issued a public clarification following the circulation of a viral video that sparked criticism on social media, where he was accused of snubbing a fan during a promotional event for his upcoming film Balti.

The clip, which gained traction online, appeared to show a female fan calling out to Shane, seemingly trying to get his attention. Social media users were quick to react, accusing the actor of arrogance and claiming that he ignored the fan entirely, despite her evident enthusiasm.

However, both Shane and the fan in question have now come forward to set the record straight, stating that the video was misleadingly edited and did not accurately represent the full sequence of events.

“The video was cut in a way that removed the part where I actually turned to greet the fan,” Shane explained, adding that he has since invited the young woman to another promotional event to clear the air.

“I’m used to things like this, but I felt compelled to respond this time because of the misunderstanding it caused,” he said.

In a candid remark, Shane even offered a wry thanks to the person who edited the video.

“I’d like to thank whoever edited that clip. I did turn to her and wish her, but that part was cut out. It’s fine—I’m used to this by now. I’ve seen plenty of such things. But I thought I should say something for those wondering why I didn’t seem bothered.”

He also reflected on the nature of viral content today:

“Unfortunately, these kinds of negative videos get more reach than the songs we release. If I’ve unknowingly hurt anyone, I sincerely apologise.”

The young woman in the video also shared her side of the story. She stated that she had already shaken hands with Shane earlier and had only tapped him to pass on a request from someone standing behind her.

“I didn’t expect the video to go viral like this,” she said.

“I had already greeted Shane. I tapped him because someone behind me wanted to shake his hand and couldn’t reach him.”

She further clarified that Shane may have misunderstood her tap as a cue to adjust his position for the camera, as the event’s visual presentation was being carefully managed.
