After a successful first season, Karan Johar is set to return as the host of The Traitors for its second edition. Prime Video has announced that the new season of the reality series will premiere on August 13, promising more strategy, suspense and unexpected twists.

Produced by Dharmatic Entertainment in collaboration with All3Media International, the Indian version is based on IDTV's internationally acclaimed format, which has won both BAFTA and Emmy awards.

This season will see 21 celebrity contestants competing against one another for the grand prize and the coveted title. As in the previous season, players will have to rely on strategy, alliances and deception as they navigate the high-stakes game.

Speaking about the upcoming season, Nikhil Madhok, Director and Head of Originals at Prime Video India, said The Traitors has become one of the platform's biggest reality franchises.

He said the show's mix of psychological gameplay, strategy and drama struck a chord with viewers across the country.

According to him, the second season will raise the stakes even further with more intense gameplay, bigger twists and a fresh line-up of celebrity contestants. Madhok also expressed excitement about Karan Johar returning to lead the show once again.

Sabrina Duguet, Executive Vice President, APAC, at All3Media International, said the overwhelming response to the first season made bringing back the show an easy decision.

She noted that viewers quickly embraced the Indian adaptation and said the new season aims to build on that success with a combination of well-known celebrity participants, gripping drama and suspenseful gameplay. Duguet added that these elements have helped make The Traitors one of the fastest-growing reality formats worldwide.

The team at Dharmatic Entertainment also reflected on the success of the debut season, saying it proved that Indian audiences are looking for reality shows that go beyond conventional formats.

According to the producers, the upcoming season will be bigger and more dramatic while staying true to the psychological tension and unpredictable gameplay that made the first edition so popular
