
Chennai: Famous South Indian actress Pushpalatha (87) has passed away. She died at her residence in T. Nagar, Chennai, after a long period of treatment. Pushpalatha acted in over a hundred films in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada, playing leading roles.
She made her film debut in the Tamil movie Senkkottai Singam, released in 1958. Her Malayalam debut came in 1969 with the film Nurse, directed by Thikkurissi Sukumaran Nair.
Pushpalatha rose to fame as the leading female star opposite prominent actors like M.G. Ramachandran, Sivaji Ganesan, Rajinikanth, and Kamal Haasan. Her final film appearance was in the 1999 movie Poovasam, directed by Sree Bharathi. She was married to actor and producer AVM Rajan.
