Thiruvananthapuram: In an episode of Pearle Maaney’s show, legendary playback singer Sujatha Mohan, her daughter-acclaimed singer Shweta Mohan, and Pearle herself opened up about the often unseen emotional backbone in their lives, their husbands, who stood by them quietly through thick and thin.

Sujatha, known for lending her voice to some of the most iconic songs in Indian cinema, recalled a poignant moment early in her career. “He had a hospital shift the next day, but he stayed with me the entire night at A.R. Rahman’s studio, lying on the floor while I recorded,” she said, speaking about her husband, Dr. Mohan.

She added with gratitude that two more men truly stood behind her success- A.R. Rahman, and director Priyadarshan. "They believed in me when I had taken a long break after becoming a mother," she added. It was these two people who pulled her back in and reminded her of what she was capable of.

Sujatha also opened up about the challenges of motherhood during a demanding music career. “I didn’t get to spend the kind of time with my daughter like Pearle does with hers. My mother raised Shweta while I travelled constantly for work. But it was my husband who said, ‘You must go for it,’ and gave me the strength to pursue my passion.”

Pearle Maaney, visibly moved, echoed a similar sentiment about her husband, actor Srinish Aravind. “I’ve said no to many things after becoming a mother. But Srini — how can I not take his name? I’m able to do all this because of him.

He’s sacrificed so much without even telling me. From arranging things for my show to taking care of the kids, sponsors, he’s been my biggest strength.”

She also touched on a modern-day dilemma, highlighting how some couples fall into a competition over earnings or success. “Marriage is not a contest. It should be about building a team,” Pearle said, receiving nods from both Sujatha and Shweta.

Shweta, meanwhile, lightened the mood with a fun anecdote about her husband’s unique way of reviewing her songs. “He only has two expressions — ‘good’ or ‘not good’,” she laughed, before adding that marriage brought her happiness and a deep sense of security.

On the work front, Shweta and Sujatha recently collaborated on the song Maathey, a soul-stirring indie track composed and arranged by Vidyasagar, with lyrics by S. Ramesan Nair. The song is produced by Shweta Mohan.
