Following widespread attention to the vandalism, efforts were reportedly made to restore the page. Mammootty's name has since been reinstated among the lead cast

The Wikipedia page of Rappakal, the 2005 Malayalam film directed by Kamal and written by TA Razak, starring Mammootty, was vandalised by online trolls who altered key details, including the plot summary and character names. The edits even falsely claimed that actor Vijayaraghavan was the film's hero.
In the plot section, trolls changed the description to call the film "the story of a servant who interferes in a family's private affairs." They also mocked Mammootty's character, Krishnan Kutty, describing him as "public nuisance interfering in the affairs of an ancestral household." The character's name was altered into troll slang, while Mammootty's name was removed altogether and replaced with a claim that Vijayaraghavan was the protagonist.
Following widespread attention to the vandalism, efforts were reportedly made to restore the page. Mammootty's name has since been reinstated among the lead cast, and the correct character name has also been restored. However, the altered plot description remained visible at the time of reporting.
According to the Wikipedia page's edit history, the changes began on Monday evening. The first edit removed Mammootty's name from the list of main cast members, followed by further changes to the character names and plot summary.
Released in 2005, Rappakal was both a critical and commercial success. Mammootty's acclaimed performance and the film's emotional storytelling made it a favourite among Malayalam cinema audiences.
In recent years, however, the film has increasingly become the subject of memes and online trolling. The movie also featured an ensemble cast including Nayanthara, Sharada, Balachandra Menon and Geethu Mohandas.
