Popular Tamil actor Soori became emotional while recalling his early days as a daily wage labourer during a promotional event for his upcoming film Maaman. Speaking at the event, Soori shared heartfelt memories of the hardships he faced before entering the film industry, particularly his time working in Tiruppur.

"I began working in Tiruppur in 1993 with a group of friends. Our daily wage was just ₹20. At the end of the week, we earned ₹140 – I would keep ₹70 for myself and send the other ₹70 home. There was a bakery nearby where I could buy a coconut bun for one and a quarter rupees. If I had tea and the bun, that would use up my money, so I often settled for just tea. Still, I couldn’t bring myself to leave the hotel because the smell of the bun was too tempting," Soori recounted, visibly moved.

He also mentioned the kind hotel owners – Govindannan, Selvannan, and Balu anna – who supported him during those years. “They were good-hearted people who took care of me. The soil of Tiruppur taught me life’s hardest lessons,” he said. Soori added that the recognition and love he now receives is the greatest reward he could ask for. “This applause feels like the world telling me, ‘We are with you.’ There’s no greater honour.”

The moment became especially emotional when actor Aishwarya Lekshmi was seen in tears listening to Soori’s story. The actor also invited two of his former employers on stage, where he broke down while expressing his gratitude.

Maaman is directed by Prasanth Pandiyaraj, with Soori also credited for the film’s story. Aishwarya Lekshmi plays the female lead, alongside Swasika and Rajkiran in key roles. The film is set to release soon and is generating strong anticipation, especially among Soori’s fans.
