Singer Chinmayi Sripada hits back at an online troll who mocked her past sexual harassment experience, drawing strong support from social media users.

Multilingual singer Chinmayi Sripada has strongly responded to an online troll that referenced her past allegations of sexual harassment against lyricist Vairamuthu.
The exchange began after a quote from Chinmayi’s husband and filmmaker Rahul Ravindran resurfaced online, where he said that in their marriage, it was Chinmayi’s choice whether to wear a mangalsutra or not. (Mangalsutra is a sacred thread worn by married Hindu women.)
Addressing the reactions, Chinmayi reportedly said the interview quote was being misused online and that she was “worried for the women” after seeing the level of online abuse directed at her husband.
Following this, a user on X made a crude remark implying that Chinmayi should be more concerned about her own safety, referencing her past sexual harassment allegations.
Responding sharply, Chinmayi hit back, saying, “Yes, because getting groped and molested is my fault. Why do men like you have to bring up my sexual harassment episode and my molester to prove some non-point? Just please vanish into thin air in Delhi so that I don’t have to breathe it.”
As the argument escalated, the troll accused her of hypocrisy, prompting Chinmayi to question, “I am asking a simple question — why did you bring up my sexual abuse in your stupid argument?”
Many users quickly came to her defence. One user wrote that “getting groped and molested is never your fault”, urging people to treat survivors with compassion, while another advised the singer to “ignore every man who trolls you”.
Chinmayi, a prominent voice during India’s #MeToo movement, has consistently spoken out against harassment and the online vilification of survivors.
