New Delhi: Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya has criticized legendary composer A.R. Rahman for his unconventional late-night working hours, sharing a personal anecdote during an interview with Bollywood Tikaana. The incident, which occurred during their sole collaboration, left Abhijeet questioning the practicality of Rahman’s approach to creativity.
Abhijeet recounted that the episode took place at a time when prominent composers like Anand-Milind, Jatin-Lalit, and Anu Malik were actively seeking his talent. While going to meet Rahman at a hotel, Abhijeet waited for a considerable time but eventually decided to leave, planning to resume work the next morning.
However, at 2 AM, Abhijeet received a call from Rahman, asking him to come to the studio. The singer, citing his need for rest, declined the request. The next morning, when Abhijeet visited the studio, Rahman was not present, further frustrating the singer.
Expressing his dissatisfaction, Abhijeet said, “I am a systematic worker. I don’t understand why recording at 3:33 AM is considered essential for creativity. This approach doesn’t align with my way of working.”
The singer emphasized the importance of discipline and structure in his work, contrasting it with Rahman’s reputation for late-night sessions.
The two artists have only worked together on one song.
