In the wake of actress Vincy Aloshious filing a formal complaint against actor Shine Tom Chacko for alleged drug use and inappropriate behaviour on a film set, senior members of the film organisation AMMA have responded, pledging full support and immediate action.
Saji Nanthyattu, a senior member of AMMA, confirmed that he contacted Vincy immediately after hearing about the incident. “Vincy was initially afraid to file a complaint,” he said. “I assured her of full support. WCC and ICC committees have also communicated with her. An emergency meeting will be held on Monday to address the matter.”
The incident came to light after Vincy posted a video on Instagram detailing disturbing experiences on the set of Soothravakyam. She described how an actor—later named in her complaint as Shine Tom Chacko—allegedly used drugs and misbehaved with her under the influence, even attempting to touch her costume under the guise of helping.
The video quickly went viral, sparking widespread concern in the industry. Major film bodies including AMMA, FEFKA, and the Film Chamber urged Vincy to file a formal complaint. The Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) also issued a statement demanding clarity on whether an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) was present on set, as mandated.
Vincy has since submitted an official complaint to both AMMA and the Film Chamber, naming Shine Tom Chacko and alleging that his conduct created an unsafe working environment. The Excise Department is expected to question her regarding the allegations, especially as Shine's name had earlier emerged in the Alappuzha hybrid cannabis case, which he had denied.
Saji Nanthyattu also commented on broader industry accountability: “Strong action will be taken. There will be no disruption to existing projects, but the organisation will take a call on Shine Tom Chacko’s involvement in future films. All safety measures have been ensured for female colleagues.”
He added that film sets would remain accessible to law enforcement. “Police and Excise are not restricted from entering film locations. Shine Tom Chacko should have been banned long ago. I support legal action against any film personalities involved in the Alappuzha hybrid cannabis seizure case.”
