BookMyShow has abruptly removed audience reviews and ratings for Shahid Kapoor’s O’ Romeo following a court order, marking a first for a Hindi film on the platform amid growing concerns over review manipulation.

Reviews removed from BookMyShow

The crime thriller O’ Romeo, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and starring Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri, released this weekend to largely positive reviews.

Initially, BookMyShow showed an audience rating of 6.8, which improved to 7 by Saturday.

Later, the rating and user reviews were removed with the message: “reviews and ratings disabled as per court order.”

The platform and the film’s makers have not provided any official statement explaining the court order.

This marks the first time a Hindi film has moved court to remove audience reviews and ratings from an online platform. Industry insiders cite. Increasing cases of review bombing, where films are targeted to lower audience scores. Allegations of fake reviews used to boost ratings on platforms like BookMyShow and IMDb.

The HT review called O' Romeo “Vishal Bhardwaj’s massiest film yet” but noted: “The subplots, particularly in the second half, test your patience as you wait for the focus to return to the central romance and the mission's urgency. Bhardwaj gets a lot right in terms of mood and texture, but the steam visibly evaporates by the time the climax rolls in.”

Highlights include Shahid Kapoor’s dance performance in Paan Ki Dukaan, and the film’s music and background score by Bhardwaj himself.

Star cast and storyline

Apart from Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri, the film also features Vikrant Massey, Tamannaah Bhatia, Avinash Tiwary, Disha Patani, Farida Jalal, and Nana Patekar. O'Romeo is based on a chapter from Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai. The film explores passion, pain, and irreversible consequences of denied love.
