With a decade of industry experience, the 20-year-old believes her past roles helped her connect with emotions purely.

Breakout star Sara Arjun, whose performance in the spy blockbuster Dhurandhar has made her one of the year’s most talked-about leads, says she always believed her transition from child actor to leading lady was a matter of destiny.
In an interview with PTI, the 20-year-old actor, who portrays the love interest of Ranveer Singh’s character in the Aditya Dhar-directed thriller, reflected on her rapid ascent.
"Of course, I really wanted this to happen. But it was a question of how and when. I feel like all of those questions have been answered for me. I keep thanking the universe and everybody who's given me this opportunity," Arjun said.
Despite her age, Arjun is a veteran of the industry. The daughter of character actor Raj Arjun, known for roles in Secret Superstar and Raees, she began her career as a 5-year-old in the 2011 Tamil film Deiva Thirumagal alongside Vikram. She later appeared in Jai Ho with Salman Khan, Jazbaa with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan epics.
Dhurandhar, which tracks an undercover Indian operative in Pakistan, has become a historic commercial success, grossing over ₹1,300 crore globally. The film’s popularity has also sparked public debate regarding the 20-year age gap between Arjun and the 40-year-old Singh.
Arjun, however, defended the creative choice as central to the script. "The debate was addressed in the film very clearly," she said. "It's mentioned in the film the age that I'm playing and the age that he's playing. So, I've always found it very justified. It's the reality of that story."
A Seasoned Perspective
Arjun believes her decade of experience as a child performer gave her a unique emotional edge.
"It's a big advantage because I didn't have any inhibitions at that time," she noted. "When you're a child, you feel emotions so purely—sadness is sadness and happiness is just happiness. I tried my level best to hold on to the way I work without inhibitions, and it really helps me."
The actor secured her role through a rigorous six-round audition process led by casting director Mukesh Chhabra. Initially, she was unaware she would be starring opposite Singh, a top-tier Bollywood star.
"I don't really tell people anything; in fact, the only people that I share whatever happens professionally with are my parents," she said. "I felt really grateful and blessed. These are the only two words that can justify the feeling that I had."
Future Outlook
As Dhurandhar continues its record-breaking run, Arjun is preparing for the release of Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, scheduled to hit theatres on March 19. While the sudden global fame has brought increased social scrutiny, she insists she is prepared for the spotlight.
"I really like to protect my personal life. I do that well enough by speaking less about it," she said. "But other than that, whatever is coming, I'm completely fine with it. In fact, I kind of wished for this, for a really long time."
