Mumbai: Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was discharged from the Lilavati Hospital on Tuesday afternoon, five days after undergoing surgery for multiple stab wounds sustained during a robbery attempt at his Bandra home. The actor’s wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, accompanied him as he left the hospital.
Doctors confirmed that the discharge procedure was completed successfully and stated that while Saif has been discharged, he is advised to rest for a few more days.
Despite his recovery, the actor is expected to stay at a different residence for now, avoiding the home where the shocking attack took place. According to sources, Saif may stay at his Fortune Heights home during this time.
The attack occurred in the early hours of January 16, when a burglar entered the Khan household at approximately 2:15 am. The burglar first assaulted the house help and then attacked Saif when he intervened. The actor sustained six stab wounds, two of which were particularly serious due to their proximity to his spine. Doctors successfully removed a 2.5-inch knife from his wound, after which Saif underwent surgery and was later moved to the ICU, where he was reportedly out of danger.
On January 20, medical professionals decided to keep Saif under observation for another day before granting his discharge.
Meanwhile, Mumbai police have arrested the attacker, Mohammed Shehzad, who has been identified as a Bangladeshi national. Shehzad, a former national-level wrestling champion, was found to have entered India illegally. The accused, when questioned, claimed that he was unaware of Saif’s celebrity status, a statement that aligns with that of a rickshaw driver who transported the actor to the hospital. The driver also mentioned that Saif’s son, Taimur, accompanied him to the police station after the incident.
