South Indian actor Sai Pallavi, who shot to fame with her debut as the beloved teacher 'Malar' in the 2015 blockbuster 'Premam', is now gearing up for her latest release, 'Amaran'.
During the promotions of the film, Sai Pallavi recalled her journey that led her from medical school to the silver screen.
Reflecting on her debut, Sai Pallavi revealed that the first call she received from 'Premam' director Alphonse Puthren felt like a scam.
"When director Alphonse Puthren called, I couldn't believe it. I thought it was a scam call. I didn't believe that someone from the movie industry would reach out to me," Sai Pallavi said.
The actress, then a medical student in Georgia, didn't immediately consider acting but later took the decision to act in movies.
Sai Pallavi, who won hearts with her performance as Malar in 'Premam' is also an exceptionally talented dancer. She is known for her ability to add charm and grace to every character she portrays on the big screen.
Now recognised as one of South India's most skilled actresses and dancers, Sai Pallavi is known for her commitment to roles that focus on talent rather than glamour. Early in her career, a video of her tango dance performance was shared, but it didn’t quite resonate with audiences as she expected. The experience led her to take a decision not to wear short or revealing clothes in the movies she acted in.
“I don’t want people to see me for glamour. I want them to appreciate my talent," she said.
"I don’t want to satisfy a group of viewers who only look for that. I refuse to let those eyes define my career," she added.
When asked if this decision of rejecting glamorous roles ever affected her career, Sai shared that she’s satisfied with the characters she plays now and would happily turn down roles that require a glamorous image, believing that meaningful roles will keep her in the industry long-term.
In her latest project, 'Amaran', Sai Pallavi stars alongside actor Sivakarthikeyan. The film is set to hit theatres on October 31.
