The romantic comedy Premalu, which released last year, became a massive hit, captivating audiences across India and ringing the cash registers. The film, featuring an ensemble cast including Naslen K. Gafoor, Mamitha Baiju, Shyam Mohan, Sangeeth Prathap, Akhila Bhargavan, and Mathew Thomas, struck a chord with viewers, particularly for the adorable love story between Sachin (played by Naslen) and Reenu (played by Mamitha), which many described as the sweetest on-screen romance of 2024. The film was a sensation, especially among younger audiences.

Thanks to its remarkable success, which defied expectations for a relatively low-budget film, the makers of Premalu announced the sequel, Premalu 2, during the film’s success celebrations in 2024. Now, in a major update, Dileesh Pothan, one of the producers, has confirmed that the script for Premalu 2 is complete, and preparations for the shoot are well underway. In a recent interview, part of the promotional campaign for one of his other projects, Dileesh revealed that the pre-production phase is in full swing, with location scouting and other essential preparations currently taking place.

“The shooting for Premalu 2 will begin around mid-June. We have three to four schedules planned for the film, and the release is targeted for the end of 2025. As per the director’s plans, the shoot will start by mid-June. This film will be on a larger canvas compared to the first part,” Dileesh explained.

In Premalu 2, Naslen and Mamitha Baiju will reprise their roles, offering fans an even more thrilling, hilarious, and romantic rollercoaster ride, continuing their journey from where the first film left off. The rest of the cast, including Sangeeth Prathap (as Amal Davis), Akhila Bhargavan (as Karthika), Shyam Mohan (as Aadhi), and Mathew Thomas (as Thomas), will also return to add to the excitement, as Sachin and Reenu’s lives take new turns. Fans are eagerly anticipating surprise elements in the sequel, which are expected to add to the thrill.

Premalu 2 is being produced under the banner of Bhavana Studios, with Dileesh Pothan, Syam Pushkaran, and Fahadh Faasil among the key producers.

The film will be released in multiple languages, including Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu, ensuring it reaches an even wider audience.

The first part of Premalu, which premiered in theatres on February 9 last year, made history by grossing nearly ₹135.9 crore at the box office, making it one of the most profitable films of 2024.

With each new update about Premalu 2, excitement is growing, and cinephiles are eagerly awaiting what promises to be another hit from the Premalu franchise.
