Mumbai: Ramayana: Part 1 is closing in on the ₹50-crore mark in domestic advance bookings, with more than 11 lakh tickets sold ahead of its November 5 theatrical release. But as the Ranbir Kapoor and Yash-starrer builds box office momentum, mixed reactions following its Los Angeles premiere have added another dimension to the film’s opening-week expectations.

According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film had generated ₹46.41 crore in advance bookings across all dates on sale as of 9 am on November 2. The figure includes blocked seats; excluding them, the collection stood at ₹37.41 crore. The film had sold nearly 11.12 lakh tickets across 35,718 shows by that time.

The numbers put the Nitesh Tiwari directorial within reach of the ₹50-crore domestic advance-booking milestone, with three days remaining before its release. Thursday, November 5, is accounting for the largest share of demand, with opening-day bookings reaching ₹25.73 crore, including blocked seats, and ₹21.65 crore without them.

Maharashtra leads as Hindi version drives pre-sales

Maharashtra is currently the biggest state market for the film, with advance bookings of ₹9.50 crore, followed by Karnataka at ₹7.22 crore and Delhi at ₹6.84 crore. Gujarat has recorded ₹3.62 crore, while Telangana has contributed ₹2.93 crore.

Among cities, the National Capital Region (NCR) has emerged as a major market, with Mumbai and Bengaluru also recording substantial advance bookings. The figures indicate strong demand across several key markets ahead of the release.

The Hindi version dominates the domestic pre-sales, contributing ₹39.06 crore, or around 84 per cent of the total gross. Kannada bookings stand at ₹4.45 crore, while Telugu has recorded ₹2.38 crore. Tamil and Malayalam advance sales have reached ₹42.57 lakh and Rs 8.01 lakh respectively.

Premium formats are also contributing to the advance business. Hindi 3D screenings have generated ₹21.57 crore, while Hindi 2D bookings stand at ₹8.75 crore and Hindi IMAX 3D at ₹6.34 crore, according to the earlier Sacnilk figures reported on November 2.

Overseas bookings take worldwide pre-sales higher

The film is also recording advance sales in overseas markets. According to the November 2 update cited by NDTV, international pre-sales had reached $3.9 million, including more than $1.5 million from US paid previews.

Together with domestic bookings, the overseas business takes the film’s worldwide advance-booking gross to around ₹75 crore, the report said. The overseas figure is a separate component and should not be confused with the domestic advance-booking total.

Mixed reviews follow Los Angeles premiere

The strong booking figures come despite divided reactions after the film’s world premiere at the Academy Museum’s David Geffen Theatre in Los Angeles on October 27.

Some early viewers praised the film’s scale, visual effects and performances, with Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayal of Lord Ram and Yash’s Ravana drawing particular attention. Others raised concerns about the storytelling, pacing and music, including the length of the action sequences and a slower second half.

International publications have also offered varied assessments. Screen Rant appreciated the film’s technical ambition, while IGN criticised its execution and gave it 4/10. IndieWire awarded it a B grade.

The contrasting responses leave the film facing two distinct tests: converting its advance bookings into a strong opening and sustaining audience interest after its wider theatrical release.

Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash lead the cast

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana: Part 1 stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. Sunny Deol plays Hanuman, while Ravi Dubey portrays Lakshman. The supporting cast includes Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, Indira Krishnan, Rakul Preet Singh, Kajal Aggarwal, Vivek Oberoi and Shobana.

The film is produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios in association with DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. The screenplay is written by Shridhar Raghavan and Tiwari, with music composed by Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman.

The first part of the two-part adaptation is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on November 5, 2026. With domestic pre-sales approaching ₹50 crore and overseas bookings adding to its opening expectations, the film’s box office performance will now be measured against the anticipation built ahead of its release.
