The Delhi High Court has granted interim bail to Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav, allowing him temporary relief in an ongoing cheque bounce case so he can attend a family function in Uttar Pradesh. The actor had approached the court seeking permission to travel for his niece’s wedding in Shahjahanpur scheduled for February 19.

During the hearing, the court allowed interim bail after noting that Yadav had made a payment of ₹1.5 crore to the complainant. The court also laid down several conditions for his release, including furnishing a bail bond of ₹1 lakh with a surety of the same amount. He has been directed to surrender his passport, if not already done, and has been instructed not to leave the country without prior permission from the court.

The next hearing in the matter has been scheduled for March 18. The court said the actor must either appear in person on the given date or join the proceedings through video conference if professional commitments prevent physical attendance. The order granting interim bail was passed by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma.

The case dates back several years and is linked to a financial dispute arising from a loan taken for the production of Yadav’s film Ata Pata Lapata. After the film failed to perform at the box office, repayment reportedly became difficult, resulting in multiple legal cases related to unpaid dues and bounced cheques. Over time, interest and legal proceedings added to the financial burden.

In 2018, a magistrate court convicted the actor under the relevant provisions of the Negotiable Instruments Act and sentenced him to six months’ imprisonment. Following the conviction, Yadav approached higher courts, which led to prolonged legal proceedings, appeals, and partial repayments. Earlier this month, acting on directions from the High Court, he surrendered before Tihar Jail as the matter continued to be heard.

Meanwhile, actor Sonu Sood, who has previously shown support for Rajpal Yadav, hinted at positive developments in a message shared on social media, saying that “good news” would soon follow and suggesting that the actor may soon return to the screen.
