From "English class" jokes to "damage control" allegations, the internet has found plenty to say about Pearle Maaney's latest appearance and not everyone is on the same page

Pearle Maaney's latest YouTube video was meant to draw a line under the controversy surrounding her comments on the student protests. But instead the clarification has become a controversy of its own.
Across YouTube, Instagram and Reddit, discussions suggest viewers remain unconvinced. While some praised her for addressing the issue, a large section of the internet questioned whether the video was a genuine apology or simply an attempt to control the damage.

'Diplomatic', 'scripted' and 'damage control'
The comments section soon filled with reactions from viewers who felt the clarification sounded rehearsed.
Many described the video as "scripted," "artificial" and "damage control," while others said it came across as sarcastic or overly diplomatic.
Comments such as "Waited for your veluppikkal (whitewashing) video," "Full acting," and "Chechi nalla fake aanallo" ("You seem so fake") were among the most-liked reactions.
Others mocked the video's presentation, saying it felt like an English literature class.
Comments including "Thanks teacher," "English period classilano nammal ullath?" (Are we sitting in an English period?) and "Google Translate and Gemini already exist" with many suggesting the video spent more time explaining words than addressing why people were upset.
Another popular comment read, "Go home enn paranjit parayua... njan angane udheshichillan" ("First you said 'go home,' now you're saying that's not what you meant"), accusing the influencer of changing her stance after the backlash.
Many believe the clarification came after the backlash
Several users pointed to what they believed was a drop in her follower count, with comments like "5.7M following 5.3M aayilo chechi", "You're clarifying because you're losing followers", "Looks like you're worried because your followers have dropped", and simply, "Damage control."
One of the most-liked comments read, "She has clearly come prepared. If this was a heartfelt apology, why would it need so much preparation, scripting and acting? Even now, she isn't fully admitting her mistake and seems more interested in justifying herself."
These remain opinions expressed by viewers. There is no confirmation that follower count or public criticism influenced Pearle's decision to release the video.

Supporters say she deserved a chance to explain
The response, however, was far from one-sided. Many viewers defended Pearle, arguing that everyone has the right to express an opinion and that apologising after recognising a mistake should be appreciated rather than endlessly criticised.
Comments like “Everyone makes mistakes; we're only human”, "Stay strong," "Always with you," and "No one should be afraid to express their opinion” reflected support for the influencer, while others said the internet was unwilling to move on despite her clarification.
Some also maintained that the only part they disagreed with was her suggestion that students should return home if they felt unsafe.
To some, Pearle Maaney clarified her intentions and admitted her mistake. To others, the clarification itself has become the latest controversy.
