Several Instagram users claimed their comments questioning her views had been deleted, while others alleged they had been blocked despite posting respectful criticism. Those allegations gained traction because Pearle had earlier said, "The comment section will be the true reflection of my freedom of speech."

Although the claims remain unverified, many online argued that moderating criticism while speaking about free expression created an irony that only intensified the backlash.
