New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has not revealed any specific details about the films that were recalled by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) after being granted approval for screening.

The ministry gave a vague reply to a query raised by CPM MP John Brittas in the Rajya Sabha, who had asked whether the Censor Board has the authority to recall films, how many such recalls have taken place in the past five years, and which films were involved.

In a written reply, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan stated that the review provision under the Cinematograph Act, 1952, was omitted in the 2023 amendment.

However, he clarified that under the Cinematograph Act, 2024, applicants have the right to seek a review, and the Chairman has the discretion to make a decision independently. 

Brittas alleged that the absence of clear answers reflects the Board’s unilateral and selective actions.
