The teaser has added weight due to Dhoni’s real-life honorary military rank

Mumbai: Former India cricket captain MS Dhoni may be gearing up for a big-screen debut, if a viral teaser featuring him alongside Bollywood actor R Madhavan is anything to go by. The short video, released on Madhavan's Instagram, has set social media ablaze with speculation, as the duo appear clad in all-black tactical gear, bulletproof vests, and sunglasses -- striking the look of elite task force officers.
The clip, which shows both Dhoni and Madhavan brandishing firearms and moving in sync through what appears to be a high-stakes operation, teases an intense action-packed project titled The Chase. However, Madhavan did not confirm whether the project is a film, web series, or something else entirely.
"One mission. Two fighters. Buckle up – a wild, explosive chase begins. The Chase – teaser out now. Directed by Vasan Bala. Coming soon," Madhavan captioned the post.
Fans were quick to react with enthusiasm and curiosity. “Dhoni as hero. Thala for a reason,” wrote one user, referring to the Chennai Super Kings icon’s enduring popularity in Tamil Nadu. Others speculated it might be a commercial shoot, though many hoped it marks Dhoni’s official entry into cinema.
The teaser has added weight due to Dhoni’s real-life honorary military rank. In 2011, he was conferred the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Parachute Regiment of the Indian Territorial Army. He even completed a two-week training stint with the regiment in Jammu & Kashmir in 2019, further endearing him to fans for his respect and involvement with the armed forces.
Though he stepped away from international cricket in August 2020, Dhoni continues to be active in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He last played a match in May 2025 for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Gujarat Titans. The franchise retained him earlier this year as an uncapped player for ₹4 crore.
