Filmmaker Neeraj Pandey has officially withdrawn the title of his upcoming film Ghooskhor Pandat, along with all related promotional material, in compliance with directions issued by the Supreme Court of India.

The film, which stars Manoj Bajpayee, will now be released under a new title that is yet to be finalised.

In an affidavit filed before the apex court on Thursday, Pandey stated that the earlier title stands “unequivocally withdrawn” and will not be used in any form going forward.

He further assured the court that the new title, once finalised, will not resemble or evoke the earlier one in any manner. The filmmaker also undertook that the revised title would accurately reflect the narrative and intent of the film without leading to unintended interpretations.

According to the affidavit, all posters, trailers, and publicity material released under the previous title have already been taken down, even before the matter was listed for hearing.

Supreme Court flags title as denigrative

Earlier, the Supreme Court had directed the filmmakers to change the title, observing that it appeared to be denigrative of a particular community. The court also instructed the producers to remove any content from the film that could be perceived as offensive or derogatory toward any group.

New title yet to be announced

While the production team has not revealed the new name of the project, the affidavit makes it clear that it will differ substantially from the withdrawn title.
