Kalpetta: Sculptor Unni Kanayi has revealed that veteran actor Mamukkoya had approached him to create a large sculpture of Karinthandan, Wayanad's unsung martyr, on his land in Vythiri. However, Mamukkoya passed away before his dream could be fulfilled.
During their meeting at Unni's house in Payyanur, Mamukkoya had told the sculptor to take his time and create the sculpture in his spare time. The actor even gifted Unni a picture of Karinthandan, which was drawn by an unknown artist.
Unni had promised Mamukkoya that he would begin work on the sculpture as soon as he finished his commitment to a resort construction project. Unfortunately, Mamukkoya passed away before Unni could start work on the sculpture, leaving his dream unfulfilled.
Mamukkoya came to see Unni Kanayi after the latter sculpted a statue of Vaikom Muhammad Basheer at a school in Kasaragod. The actor had been the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the sculpture. During the visit, the actor expressed his desire to create a sculpture of Karinthandan.
Sadly, Mamukkoya passed away before Unni could start work on the sculpture. "I never expected that we would lose him so soon. I can still create the sculpture, but Mamukkoya will not be there to witness it," Kanayi lamented.
