“While many of us can enjoy or even dislike a song, others long just to hear any sound at all,” Mammootty said thoughtfully.

Acting legend Mammootty continues to mesmerise audiences with his diverse roles on the big screen. An actor par excellence, his aura is defined by his relentless passion for his craft. A joyful performer who constantly reinvents and sharpens his artistry, he remains a true master of his craft.
However, a health scare forced the actor to take a brief break from acting last year. The legendary star has already staged a grand comeback with his latest release Kalamkaval, which also stars Vinayakan, and the film has emerged as a hit at the box office. The ace actor, now fit and fine, has several exciting projects lined up, including the much-anticipated Patriot, directed by Mahesh Narayanan, in which he will share screen space with fellow superstar Mohanlal and an array of stars, including Nayanthara.
What has now become the talking point is Mammootty’s revelation about the tough times he endured some time ago. In a video shared by The Cue Studio, he was seen speaking at an event organized at a hospital.
During the interaction, the National Award-winning actor revealed how he had temporarily lost his sense of smell and taste while facing the health scare.
“Eyesight and hearing are very important aspects of human life. Even while breathing, some people are unable to smell anything. I was unable to smell or taste anything for a long time. Now, I am slowly regaining it. We only understand the value of such abilities when we lose them,” Mammootty said.
The actor also reminded people of the privilege of possessing sensory perception.
“When we ask someone to turn the volume down or speak more softly, it’s because we have the ability to hear. Those who cannot hear would never make such a request. Many people don’t recognise the privilege of being able to enjoy or even dislike a song, while others long just to hear any sound at all. The ability to hear is truly a divine blessing.”
Mammootty’s heartfelt recollection and his reflection on the difficulties faced by many people highlight the humane side of the actor, as this time he chose to share a real-life message. (With inputs from Agencies)
