This August, four much-anticipated films are set to light up theatres across Kerala as Malayalis gear up to celebrate Onam. Releasing over two days this week, these films promise a diverse mix of genres and performances, making the festive season one to remember for cinema lovers.

Leading the line-up is Hridayapoorvam, starring Mohanlal and directed by veteran filmmaker Sathyan Anthikad, and Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, which features Kalyani Priyadarshan in a superhero role. Both films will hit cinemas on Thursday. On Friday, audiences can look forward to Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira, directed by Althaf Salim and headlined by Fahadh Faasil, along with Maine Pyar Kiya, a romantic comedy thriller starring Hridhu Haroon and Preity Mukhundhan.

Originally slated for release during Onam, Shane Nigam's Balti has been postponed, narrowing the festive slate to four major releases.

An interesting highlight this year is Kalyani Priyadarshan’s presence in two of the four Onam releases. While she dons the cape in Lokah as a superhero, she shifts gears into a more light-hearted role in Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira.

Hridayapoorvam is backed by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas. The film features Malavika Mohanan as the female lead, with a supporting cast that includes Lalu Alex, Sangeeth Prathap, Sangeetha Siddique, Baburaj, and Sabitha Anand. The story is by Akhil Sathyan, while the screenplay is penned by newcomer Sonu TP. Anoop Sathyan serves as the chief associate director, Anu Moothedath handles cinematography, and editing is by K. Rajagopal. The music is composed by Justin Prabhakaran.

Produced by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films, Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra is envisioned as the beginning of a superhero cinematic universe. Directed and written by Dominic Arun, the film stars Kalyani Priyadarshan alongside Naslen. With a big budget and ambitious scope, Lokah marks a bold step into a new genre for Malayalam cinema.

Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira marks actor-director Althaf Salim’s return to directing after his debut with Njandukalude Nattil Oridavela. Marketed as a fun-filled family entertainer, the film features Lal, Vinay Forrt in key roles alongside Fahadh Faasil.

Rounding out the Onam releases is Maine Pyar Kiya, a romantic comedy thriller produced by Sanju Unnithan under the banner of Spire Productions. The film is written and directed by debutant Faizal Faziludeen and stars newcomers Hridhu Haroon and Preity Mukundhan in the lead roles.
