Kochi: The Producers Association has announced that it will begin publishing the monthly profit and loss figures of Malayalam films through its own YouTube channel, named ‘Vellithira’. The channel, which is set to launch soon, will start by releasing the figures for February.
Despite opposition from some of the film industry’s leading stars, the association is moving forward with the decision to publicly disclose production costs, earnings, and profits. The controversy between the association's vice president, G. Suresh Kumar, and prominent producer Antony Perumbavoor following the release of January’s figures has been a major point of discussion.
The Producers Association is following in the footsteps of the actors' organisation, ‘Amma’, by launching the YouTube channel. ‘Vellithira’ is intended to provide a platform for the association to clarify its stance and release official statements, thereby reducing confusion surrounding the financial aspects of the industry.
The initiative is also aimed at countering misleading or false information spread by unofficial YouTube channels, reinforcing the Producers Association’s authority as the official source of such details.
