Kochi: Actress Maala Parvathi has made serious allegations against fellow actress Usha Hazeena, accusing her of leaking confidential information from a WhatsApp group of women members within the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) to a YouTube channel.
According to Maala Parvathi, Usha allegedly shared screenshots from the WhatsApp group, which includes female members of the organisation. Maala revealed that she had posted detailed notes regarding the matter on her social media account but later hid them, explaining, “It is because there is a restriction on writing such notes until the AMMA elections are over.”
The post reportedly contained details about internal matters concerning AMMA’s women’s group and issues related to the organisation’s elections.
She also addressed the controversy surrounding a missing memory card that allegedly consisted of complaints from members. The controversy surfaced after actor Babu Raj withdrew from the election.
Maala Parvathi stated, “During the Hema Committee days or when its report came out, there was no such issue reported in the media."
She referred to a video released by a YouTube channel on July 16, stating, “A shocking thing was seen in the video, which was 10 minutes and 52 seconds long. At 6:05, a screenshot appeared showing the group’s authenticity. In that screenshot, the fourth number shows ‘My Number.’ That means the screenshot came from the phone of the group admin. Usha Hazeena is the group member associated with that number.”
“There was widespread protest among members when it was found that exclusive content was being given to a YouTuber using the WhatsApp group. Since then, the YouTuber started predicting every controversy happening and yet to happen in AMMA,” she added.
"What I said about Babu Raj not contesting in the elections was not personal. I have always believed that those facing allegations should step away from elections... It’s natural to face such backlash when standing up against the powerful. I see these attacks as a prelude to bigger ones to come,” she added.
According to Maala Parvathi, many of these issues stemmed from the WhatsApp group.
“Despite Kuku not holding any position in the executive or subcommittee, the commotion created against her over the missing memory card makes no sense. The admin of the group and the YouTuber seemed to be in sync with their statements and were originating from one place, which I had noticed earlier. Hence, I believe this is a well-planned attack.”
Maala Parvathi also stated that when the WhatsApp group was formed, it was communicated that the group would eventually be merged into AMMA.
“The admins had said that AMMA was aware of everything happening in the group. Rules were posted occasionally in the group stating that AMMA would take action if they weren’t followed. One rule clearly stated that no group information should be leaked outside.”
However, Maala Parvathi said the group did not treat all members equally. “AMMA had stated that action would be taken if group rules were violated. But at present, there is no official committee in AMMA. So who made these decisions? That needs to be clarified. I felt the group was obstructing free thought and voting, which is why I exited the WhatsApp group.”
She added that when she informed the group about her decision to leave, Sarayu and one of the admin panel members replied that the group had no official connection with AMMA.
“If so, then why was the group formed? The group’s topics were consistently turned into YouTube content. The memory card controversy that emerged after Babu Raj withdrew his nomination seems to be targeted at influencing the elections. Otherwise, why wasn’t this issue raised between 2018 and 2025?” she questioned.
