Veteran actor and Thrissur MP Suresh Gopi has urged that controversies surrounding his latest film Janaki V v/s State of Kerala, also marketed as JSK, should not overshadow its core message.

Speaking to the reporters after attending the premiere show of the film at Ragam Theatre, Thrissur, he said, “JSK is receiving huge acceptance. The film carries no controversy within itself; rather, it addresses an important and timely issue. Attempts to stir controversy must not derail the powerful message it conveys."

The actor, who plays the lead role in the film, expressed hope that JSK would help shape new narratives around women's safety. “This film can become a turning point in the discourse on women's safety. Let Janaki’s voice be the voice of all women. Let it reflect the realities of our society today. Laws alone are not enough; they must be implemented effectively,” he added.

The film was originally titled Janaki vs State of Kerala, but the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) objected to the use of the name “Janaki” in the title. Following this, the makers approached the High Court. As a compromise, the title was modified to Janaki V vs State of Kerala, incorporating only the initial of the lead female character’s name.

Suresh Gopi had previously remained silent on the censorship-related controversy, but chose to break his silence on the release day, emphasising that JSK is not just a film, but a socially relevant statement.

Written and directed by Pravin Narayanan, the film also stars Anupama Parameswaran in the lead role as Janaki. The film is produced by J. Phanindra Kumar under the banner of Cosmos Entertainments, with Sethuraman Nair Kankol as co-producer.
