Kochi: It is not fair to solely blame cinema for the rising incidents of violent crimes, the Producers' Association has stated. Cinema could be a contributing factor to violence in society, but it is not the only one. Films undergo a censoring system, whereas numerous programmes featuring violence and sex reach living rooms through OTT platforms and YouTube. Even video games played by young children are filled with excessive violence. Shouldn't there be regulations for those too? the association stated in a press release.

The Producers' Association also noted that it is not right to prohibit the screening of a film that has been certified for public viewing by the Censor Board. Recently, the Censor Board stopped the television screening of the film 'Marco', which had performed well in theatres. The press release also criticised the government for not taking adequate action against drug abuse. It pointed out that drug use in the film industry is affecting even production activities. The association had publicly demanded an investigation into the matter in 2023. However, no effective measures have been taken so far, it pointed out. The association reiterated its full support for efforts to curb the spread of drugs in society.
