Kochi: The Producers Association has dismissed Antony Perumbavoor’s public comments and reiterated that the decision to go on an indefinite strike from June 1 is the official stance of the organisation. In a press release, the association stated that Perumbavoor, who criticised the announcement made by the association's vice president, G. Suresh Kumar, has been formally warned for his actions.
On February 6, a joint meeting was held by FIOC, FEFKA, and the Distributors Association to discuss ongoing issues within the film industry. The meeting concluded with a unanimous decision to proceed with the strike starting June 1. As the association's president, Anto Joseph, had requested leave, vice presidents G. Suresh Kumar and Ziyad Kokar were tasked with representing the organisation's position. The Producers Association confirmed that the statements made by Suresh Kumar reflected the official stance of the governing body.
The association expressed dismay over Antony Perumbavoor’s public criticism, especially as he had not attended the meeting despite being invited. His post, which questioned Suresh Kumar’s authority to declare a strike and claimed that the association had not made a formal decision, was widely shared by prominent actors, including Prithviraj and Unni Mukundan. In response, the Producers Association issued a clarification, reaffirming that the governing body’s decision was final and should not be publicly challenged.
Earlier, in November, the Producers Association had addressed the actors' organisation 'AMMA' in a letter regarding concerns over rising production costs. However, the association clarified that, as an ad hoc committee, it is unable to provide a formal response without consulting the general body.
