Dr. C.J. Roy, founder and chairman of Confident Group, was a leading real estate entrepreneur who transformed the housing sector across Kerala, Karnataka, and beyond. His sudden and tragic death at his office in Bengaluru during a raid has sent shockwaves through the business and real estate community.
Officials said Roy allegedly shot himself while authorities were examining company documents. The incident has sparked widespread grief and renewed attention on the life and legacy of one of South India’s most prominent builders.
From corporate career to a real estate giant
Dr. Roy held a doctorate in Business Administration from SBS Business School, Zurich, and had earlier worked with Fortune 100 companies before launching Confident Group. What began as a real estate venture soon grew into one of South India’s largest construction and development firms, with over 200 residential, commercial, and township projects across Kerala and Karnataka.
The group became especially known for delivering both affordable housing and luxury homes in cities such as Kochi, Thrissur, Calicut, Trivandrum, Kottayam, and Bangalore. With operations also extending to the UAE, Confident Group emerged as a trusted name built on quality, innovation, and customer focus.
Films, Philanthropy and Public Life
Beyond real estate, Dr. Roy made a strong mark in the film and entertainment industry. He produced and co-produced several Malayalam films, including Mohanlal-starrers Casanovva and Ladies and Gentleman, along with Mei Hoom Moosa and Identity. He was associated with the National Award-winning epic Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham and extended his presence into television, partnering with multiple seasons of Bigg Boss Malayalam, Bigg Boss Kannada Season 10 and shows like Flowers Top Singer 2. His contributions also reached award platforms, with Confident Group supporting events such as the SIIMA Awards, strengthening his footprint in both cinema and cultural initiatives.
A committed philanthropist, Roy supported education through scholarships worth over ₹1 crore and backed healthcare, women’s empowerment, and welfare initiatives. He also served as the Honorary Consul of the Slovak Republic for Karnataka and Kerala.
