
Thiruvananthapuram: The 51st Kerala State Film Award ceremony was held here on Monday. The winners received the awards from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. While inaugurating the event, the chief minister said that the Malayalam movies are showing signs of change.
The new movies are sending out messages showing the importance of practicing democracy within families and questioning the misogynistic perception of kitchen. The best movie clearly portrays how patriarchy silently works within households and affect the society. The jury succeeded in marking the new trends in Mollywood, the chief minister added.
Director Jeo Baby received the award for best movie and best screen writer for the movie ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’. ‘Ayyapanum Koshiyum’ was selected as best popular movie. Late director Sachy’s wife Siji received the award on behalf of him.
Jayasurya received best actor award for his stunning performance in ‘Vellam’. Anna Ben bagged best actress award for ‘Kappela’. Siddharth Siva received the award for best director.
The best director and director of the best film would get Rs 2 lakh, citation and a plaque each. The actor and actress would get Rs 1 lakh, citation and plaque each. A jury headed by senior actress Suhasini Mani Ratnam selected the award winners.
Ministers P Rajeeve, PA Mohammed Riyas, MLA V K Prashanth, Mayor Arya Rajendran, jury chairperson Suhasini, Dr P K Rajasekharan, KSFDC chairman Shaji N Karun, Chalachithra Academy chairman Kamal, secretary C Ajoy and others addressed the gathering.
