Mumbai: The much-anticipated 'Kantara: Chapter 1' has finally hit theatres, but early audience reactions suggest it has struggled to recreate the magic of the original.

The first instalment of the franchise became an instant favourite with its gripping storyline, powerful performances, and evocative rural backdrop. However, viewers say the sequel lacks the same intensity and polish.

One moviegoer told IANS, “I have seen the first 'Kantara' multiple times. Kantara: Chapter 1 is completely different. The rural setting has been replaced with a depiction of the Kadamba dynasty. The first half felt slow and scattered, but the second half was better and took the story to another level.”

While some praised the latter portions, others criticised the film’s pacing, action sequences, editing, and visual effects. Several viewers described the climax as stretched and the execution rushed.

Despite the mixed reviews, Rishab Shetty’s performance has been widely appreciated. Audiences said he convincingly brought the tribal characters to life, with many highlighting his acting and the dialogue as key strengths of the film.

Still, a common refrain among viewers was that while 'Kantara: Chapter 1' had its moments, it fell short of the impact and intensity of the original.
