Kozhikode: Veteran musician Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri has been honoured with the Bharat Sangeet Ratna Award, presented by the Bharat Sangeet Sabha, in recognition of his significant contributions to the field of music. The prestigious award includes a memento and a cash prize of Rs 25,000. The announcement was made by BSS President Indu Sasidharan and Secretary Ratheesh.
The award ceremony is scheduled to take place at Kozhikode Town Hall on July 14 evening where Kozhikode Mayor Beena Philip will present the award to Kaithapram.
Kaithapram was earlier honoured with the Padma Shri award in 2021 for his multifaceted contributions to arts. Born on August 4, 1950, in Kaithapram village, Payyanur Taluk, Kannur district, Kerala, Kaithapram is celebrated as a lyricist, poet, music director, actor, singer, screenwriter, and music therapist. His illustrious career began with the 1986 film "Ennennum Kannettante".
Kaithapram's artistic journey has been marked by significant achievements, including winning the Kerala State Film Award for Best Lyricist on two occasions. His lyrical prowess and musical compositions have left an indelible mark on the Malayalam film industry. Beyond cinema, Kaithapram is also noted for his performances in Carnatic music.
