Kochi: Sunilraj Edapal, who shot to fame as the 'Junior Kunchacko Boban,' has been forced to issue a video explanation after his post about the star sparked a massive online controversy, leading to claims that Kunchacko Boban did not act in his own film.
The controversy erupted when Sunilraj posted on social media that he had done "some scenes" for Kunchacko Boban in the film 'Sureshanteyum Sumalathayudeyum Hrudayahariyaya Pranayakadha,' due to the actor's busy schedule. The post was immediately twisted, forcing the mimicry artist to take it down and post a detailed video clarification.
In his video, Sunilraj expressed shock and distress over the negative spin given to his original post, which was meant to highlight the genuine side of Kunchacko Boban (lovingly called Chackochan).
"I came to know about this incident only after receiving a few calls. Chackochan has done nothing wrong to me. He has not done anything harmful to me except for my benefit," Sunilraj insisted.
He clarified that the scenes he shot were strictly technical requirements common in filmmaking, like patch shots, cheating shots, suggestion shots and dupe shots.
These are generally shots of the actor's back, legs, or shots from a distance, used for continuity or to save time when the lead actor is tied up with primary scenes or travel.
Sunilraj revealed that the biggest favour the star did for him was suggesting his name for the minor role in the first place.
"When he was very busy, I got to do some of his portions in the movie... He was in America at that time. So he was the one who suggested me for that film. That is a big deal," Sunilraj explained.
He emphasised that getting a recommendation from an established actor like Kunchacko Boban was the support he needed for his career.
The mimicry artist issued a stern warning to online users, urging them to stop twisting his words into negative headlines that could hurt the star.
"I made such a post so that others would know about the good favour that Chackochan had done. But by the time it came out, it turned negative... All I have to say is, don't twist the facts and make things twist in a way that upsets him. Because being able to be friends with a good man like him is a big deal for me," he concluded.
