The revising committee of the censor board has once again reviewed the Vijay-starrer Jana Nayagan, with members watching the film in Mumbai on Tuesday. The move comes after concerns were raised over political references within the film, prompting the censor board to recommend a re-examination by officials from the Election Commission. As a result, the final decision regarding the film’s release now rests with the Election Commission.

The film was originally slated for release on 9 January to coincide with the Pongal festival. However, the launch was postponed after it failed to secure the required censor certification. The producers, KVN Productions, subsequently approached the Madras High Court seeking relief, but no favourable decision was granted, leading to further delays.

The matter was later taken to the Supreme Court, though this too did not yield an immediate resolution. Eventually, the producers chose to withdraw the legal cases and agreed to submit the film for re-evaluation.

With the latest review now completed, the fate of Jana Nayagan remains uncertain, as authorities assess whether its political content complies with regulatory guidelines ahead of any potential release.
