Ranbir Kapoor has confirmed that he will be seen in a dual role in Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious epic Ramayana, portraying both Lord Rama and Parshurama, two avatars of Lord Vishnu. While the film’s teaser had hinted at this, the actor has now officially confirmed the development.

Speaking to Collider during the teaser launch event in Los Angeles, Ranbir shared insights into his preparation and approach to the contrasting characters. He explained that he relied on distinct body language and voice modulation to differentiate between the calm, composed nature of Rama and the intense, fiery persona of Parshurama.

Ranbir shared, “Lord Vishnu had different avatars. Lord Rama was an avatar, and Lord Parshurama was an avatar before Lord Rama. Playing both roles was a fantastic opportunity. I spent a year preparing for Ramayana to understand who these characters are, their beliefs, and their motives.”

He also spoke about the scale of the film’s action and visuals, comparing it to global cinematic standards. According to the actor, the sequences are “nothing less than Lord of the Rings,” adding that the team shot “six hours of epic visuals.”

The teaser offers a glimpse of the iconic encounter between Rama and Parshurama, a key moment in the epic narrative. The sequence unfolds after Rama’s marriage to Sita, when Parshurama confronts him, only to later recognise him as a fellow avatar of Vishnu.

The film features a star-studded cast, with Sai Pallavi playing Sita and Yash portraying Ravana. Sunny Deol will appear as Hanuman, while Ravie Dubey takes on the role of Lakshman. Arun Govil plays King Dashratha.

The ensemble cast also includes Kajal Aggarwal as Mandodari and Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha, along with Kunal Kapoor, Adinath Kothare, Sheeba Chaddha and Indira Krishnan in key roles.

Ramayana Part I is slated for a theatrical release this Diwali, with the second instalment scheduled to hit screens during Diwali 2027, continuing the large-scale retelling of the epic.
