Ryan Reynolds teases Deadpool`s Avengers crossover in a cryptic Instagram post, sparking speculation about MCU debut in ‘Secret Wars’.

Ryan Reynolds may have just dropped a tantalising hint about Deadpool’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The actor shared a cryptic post on his official Instagram handle, vancityreynolds, sparking speculation that his foul-mouthed antihero could finally team up with Earth’s mightiest heroes.
Reynolds posted an image of the Avengers logo in black and white, overlaid with a red spray-painted “A” that fans quickly connected to Deadpool. The post had no official caption initially, but a later-deleted caption read simply, “WHAT," accompanied by a side-eye emoji, fuelling excitement across social media.
Fans drew parallels to a scene in’ Deadpool and Wolverine’, where a similar red “A” is sprayed over an Avengers flag inside the Void – a chaotic dimension outside time and space first introduced in ‘Loki’. This connection has sparked theories that Deadpool could appear in the forthcoming ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, which is rumoured to feature Battleworld, a universe-colliding setting where the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Avengers, and more unite to face a major threat, reportedly Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
Deadpool’s MCU history
Reynolds’ post has only intensified these rumours. The actor made his MCU debut as Deadpool alongside Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in the 2024 release ‘Deadpool vs Wolverine’, which reunited the fan-favourite characters on the big screen. Fans have been eagerly awaiting confirmation of their return, and Reynolds’ Instagram post has reignited hopes of a potential crossover with the Avengers.
Interestingly, Reynolds has previously dismissed the idea of Deadpool officially joining the Avengers. Speaking to Time earlier this year, he quipped, “If Deadpool becomes an Avenger or an X-Man, we’re at the end. That’s wish fulfilment, and you can’t give him that.” He also hinted at Deadpool’s isolated adventures, adding, “I’m writing a little something right now, that’s, I don’t know, it’s an ensemble. But, I like that [Deadpool] is isolated.”
In ‘Deadpool 3’, Reynolds’ character even approaches Stark Towers for an interview with Happy Hogan, only to have his hopes of joining the Avengers dashed, demonstrating the franchise’s self-aware humour.
Upcoming Avengers films
The speculation comes ahead of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, followed by ‘Secret Wars’ on December 17, 2027. Both films recently had their release dates pushed back, and while the cast for ‘Doomsday’ has been confirmed to include a star-studded line-up of returning heroes, many names were notably absent from the initial announcement. Marvel later clarified that the list was incomplete, leaving fans to wonder who else would join the franchise.
While there is still no official confirmation from Marvel about Deadpool’s participation in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ or ‘Secret Wars’, Reynolds’ cryptic post has sent fans into a frenzy, with speculation running rampant about a potential MCU debut for the mercenary antihero.
Marvel’s next film on the slate is Tom Holland’s ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, slated for release on July 31 2026, before ‘Doomsday’ hits theatres in December. Whether Deadpool will join the Avengers remains a mystery, but Reynolds’ recent social media activity has made one thing clear: fans are dreaming bigger than ever.
