Jwala Gutta, one of India’s pride in badminton and a recipient of the prestigious Arjuna Award, has represented the country at the Olympics twice. The talented athlete won a gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and a bronze at the 2011 World Championships, alongside several other commendable performances for India in various tournaments. She is married to actor Vishnu Vishal. Meanwhile, Jwala had also ventured into acting, featuring in a Telugu film.
She made a cameo appearance in the film Gunde Jaari Gallanthayyinde which featured Nithin and Nithya Menen in lead roles. She was part of an item song in the movie. Now, Jwala has opened up about her brief foray into the film industry and her experience in the song.
In a recent podcast interview, Jwala revealed that she had no real interest in acting and that it was her friend Nithin who encouraged her to appear in the item song. She said, "Nithin is my friend. Other people also approached me for films, but in Telugu films, all you need is fair skin. That’s the reality. One day, at a party, Nithin casually asked me if I would do an item song. I thought it was just a casual conversation, so I agreed. Three months later, Nithin called again and said everything was ready for the shoot. I was shocked. At that point, I felt if I backed out, it would be a huge loss for the crew, so I agreed to act."
She continued, "My appearance in the film contributed to its publicity, and that was the only benefit I believe. On the first day, I was given a costume that barely covered my legs. As the days went by, it got smaller. When I asked Nitin about it, he said it looked fine."
Jwala’s candid comments reflect her unplanned experience in the world of cinema, marking a brief detour from her illustrious sporting career.
