Elizabeth Udayan, ex-partner of Malayalam actor Bala, releases distressing video from hospital alleging abuse and lack of justice.

Dr Elizabeth Udayan, former partner of Malayalam actor Bala, has released a distressing video from a hospital bed, alleging that her ex-husband and his family would be solely responsible if anything were to happen to her. The video, posted on Facebook, shows Elizabeth with a nasal tube and visibly struggling, as she voices frustration with the legal system and the lack of support she has received despite repeated complaints.
“I’ve reached a point where I don’t know what will happen once this video is out, or whether I’ll even be alive,” she says in the video. “If anything happens to me, he and his family are entirely responsible.”
Elizabeth accuses Bala of publicly acknowledging her as his wife during interviews and stage appearances, only to later deny the existence of the marriage. “He now says there was no marriage, no wedding ceremony and that it was all in my head. But if that’s true, why did he call me his wife in public?” she asks.
In the video, she claims she endured threats, physical abuse, defamation through media, and multiple counter-cases. “He cheated me, physically abused me, and defamed me. Not just him, his entire family too,” she alleges.
Elizabeth reveals she had approached the Chief Minister and filed complaints in court, but says her pleas have largely gone unanswered. “Justice has been delayed for reasons I don’t understand. The case is ongoing, but the accused and his lawyer have skipped court dates repeatedly. The last time they did appear, the lawyer claimed he was financially broke — this from a man who boasts of being worth Rs 250 crore.”
A restraining order is in place, preventing both parties from interfering in each other’s lives or sharing videos online. However, Elizabeth claims that Bala violated the order by releasing a threatening video indirectly targeting her. “He posts things under various names and tells the police it’s not about me. Yet, the police don’t even register a complaint,” she says.
Elizabeth also expressed disillusionment with the justice system, stating that it seemed to favour those with money and influence. “I’ve shared evidence, spoken out, even gone to the Chief Minister. But nothing has changed. Everyone says women get justice when they speak up — I’ve learned that’s not true. Filing the case now feels like a mistake. I’m paying lawyers twice a month, going to court repeatedly, and nothing has come of it. I’m exhausted.”
The emotional video ends with a grim reflection. “There’s no point in anyone speaking up after I’m dead. I’ve done everything I could. If no one can hear the cries of a woman who has wept this much, then let’s see if anything in this system changes even after my death.”
