Mumbai: Renowned Bollywood playback singer Kumar Sanu is facing serious allegations from his ex-wife Rita Bhattacharya, who recently opened up in an interview about their troubled marriage. Rita shared shocking details about emotional and physical harassment, multiple extramarital affairs, and disturbing behaviour within Sanu’s family, all of which have now sparked a fresh wave of controversy around the singer’s personal life.

Affairs and control: ‘He didn't let me step out’

In a conversation with Film Window, Rita claimed that Kumar Sanu was involved in several extramarital affairs during their marriage. “Just one of them has come out; many more will follow,” she said, referring to actress Kunika Sadanand’s confession about her relationship with the singer.

Rita also described Sanu as "extremely insecure," alleging that he didn’t allow her to step outside the house. “I was never allowed to go beyond the gate, visit a parlour, or even wear kajal. He controlled everything,” she said, describing her life as isolated and monitored.

Pregnancy harassment: ‘They locked the kitchen storage’

One of the most disturbing parts of the interview was Rita’s account of how she was treated during her pregnancy. She said she was often denied food, and the kitchen was locked when Sanu and his family left the house.

“I had to ask the watchman to bring rice so I could cook khichdi for myself and my children,” she recalled. “They even stopped getting milk for my kids and told the paediatrician they wouldn't pay him. They controlled every aspect of my life, even when I was carrying their child.”

Shocking family claims: ‘A pattern of affairs’

Rita also spoke about what she described as a pattern of questionable behaviour in Kumar Sanu’s family. She alleged that Sanu's married sister often visited their home with her boyfriend and stayed overnight. According to Rita, when she objected, Kumar Sanu stopped her from speaking further.

She further claimed that Sanu used to sleep next to his sister, not sexually, but to keep Rita away from him. “There was no sense of personal boundaries in that house,” she said.

Rita also alleged that Kumar Sanu’s father remarried late in life and would openly get ready in front of his wife to go meet his new bride. “That’s the kind of system they had at home,” she remarked.
